When Goodness is a Sin

Citizenlink 11-30-09: Humanist Group Wages War on Christmas
The American Humanist Association has launched a nationwide promotion to undermine Christmas. The "National Godless Holiday" campaign includes a series of bus and rail ads that take a swipe at the Christmas celebration, exhorting people to "Be Good for Goodness' Sake."
Oh the humanity. What a bad thing it is to "Be Good for Goodness' Sake." Unlike those who need to be told by the Bible to be good. How ever will supremacist Christians regain their monopoly on goodness?

According the The American Humanist Association, they are "driven by a desire to meet the needs of people in the here and now, and "The positions we hold and the actions we take are not simply for our own benefit, but for the betterment of all of society."

Pretty ominous, eh?

Back to the Citizenlink article:
Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University School of Law, said the ads are insensitive and mean.

"It is wrong to belittle Jews for celebrating Hanukkah during the holiday season, and it is wrong to offend all religions during Christmas."
Of course, Jews and the members of all other religions are going to burn in a lake of fire for all eternity---by a loving god no less. But that doesn't discourage Staver and Focus on the Family from exploiting them--No doubt for goodness' sake.

And as far as “insensitive and mean” goes, that’s quite rich coming from Matt Staver. This is a man who argued in front of the California Supreme Court to deny marriage equality.

One of his arguments was thus:
Same sex relations will not accidentally, unintentionally, in an unplanned fashion, produce children.
This is also a man who penned a book called “Same-Sex Marriage: Putting Every Household at Risk." A book that contains some of the most hateful and vile rhetoric and slander that I have ever read in an anti-gay book.

In Chapter 3: Our Children At Risk, he had this to say on p46:
Another study found a significant increase in the risk of incest among children raised by homosexual parents. “A disproportionate percentage---29 percent of the adult children of homosexual parents had been specifically subjected to sexual molestation by that homosexual parent, compared to only 0.6 percent of the adult children of heterosexual parents having reported sexual relations with their parent…Having a homosexual parent(s) appears to increase the risk of incest with a parent by a factor about 50.” (92)
And what does footnote 92 list as its source, you ask. *drum roll please*…The long-time discredited lord of virulently anti-gay fake studies, Paul Cameron.

One thing is for certain; the ads are mere propaganda that answers to an argument that no one has made. The claim is not that atheists lack of morals but lack of moral premise, lack of ethos.
It is also a reprinting of their ads from last year: http://atheismisdead.blogspot.com/2008/11/another-atheist-charity-huge-success.html

Yet again, during a time of the year when people are generally more inclined towards charity—peace on earth and good will towards non-gender specific personages—atheists are busily collecting hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars during a time of recession not in order to help anyone in real material need but in order to purchase bill boards and bus ads whereby they seek to demonstrate, to themselves, just how clever they are—need any more be said?

“need any more be said?”

Yes, quite.

“answers to an argument that no one has made”

You make that argument in your very next sentence:

“The claim is not that atheists lack of morals but lack of moral premise”

They are the same. No moral premise for morals, no morals.

Yet, one needs no more than the decision to aspire to be moral---and then act on that decision---to be moral. The decision itself is the premise.

And from Whom do you think the impetus for that decision comes from?

atheists are busily collecting hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars during a time of recession not in order to help anyone in real material need but in order to purchase bill boards and bus ads whereby they seek to demonstrate, to themselves, just how clever they are”

Christians are busily collecting MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of dollars during a time of recession not in order to help anyone in real material need but in order to prevent gay people from marrying, to show just how superior they are.

Hypocrisy aside, therein lies the rub. Even if your claims were true, you show your hand when you vilify ALL atheists based on the unsubstantiated behavior of a few.

BTW, every day is the “time of the year” to “help anyone in real material need.”

Thus, let us keep in mind that when anyone besmirches “religion” they are merely seconding the Bible and God Himself.”

Don’t you have to be perfect in order to speak for God?

Let us see if we can follow the bouncing ball and comment the dots of atheist propaganda:

1) Atheist activists such as Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, etc. condemn the overwhelming majority of parents who have ever lives as “child abusers,” “brainwashers,” etc. for teaching their children their religion. They do this while admitting that they want society to step in and that this will lead to children choosing no religion at all—their goal is to interrupt families in order to encourage atheism in children: evidence here

2) Next, they admit that they teach “science” and “evolution” as being synonymous with atheism, that they smuggle atheism in through the back door of “science” classes in public schools, that they write children’s “fiction” which is really an atheism catechism in disguise, etc.: evidence here and here

3) Next, they seek the support of fellow atheists and the UN in condemning religious parents and pretend to be concerned for free thought and free choice: evidence here

4) Next, we find that some atheist parents and some atheist organizations are not the least bit shy to admit that they do the very same things that other atheists condemn in religious parents, that they want to raise their children to be atheists—sometimes under the very thin disguise of teaching them critical thinking; yet, the evidence is clear, they want to raise atheists: evidence here

5) Lastly, at least thus far, atheists worldwide waste precious money not to help the needy during a time of recession but in order to purchase belligerent bus ads and billboards as they refuse to follow the evidence where it leads and condemn the celebrity atheists for their hypocrisy: evidence here

7) So, how about this for an add: please don’t call us “child abusers,” “brainwashers,” etc. leave us alone and let us choose how to raise our children: evidence here

Moreover, for much more evidence of atheist who seek to dictate child rearing to us all see here

Mariano: You are a typical fundamentalist hypocrite. No one can honestly dispute the fact that religion is the main cause of people being in need. Religion is the main cause of overpopulation, poverty, malnutrition, war, and environmental degradation. Anything that opposes religion, by its very nature, helps the needy. Besides, if you really cared about the needy, you would stop believing in religion.

(By the way, if you say that religion doesn't do these things, you will be lying. Your own religion tells you that lying is a sin.)

General comment: I think it is so funny that Christian fundamentalists are getting so militant over a pagan holiday like Christmas. But, then again, Christianity itself has pagan roots too.

Mariano,

I appreciate your passion, and I especially appreciate the effort you took with your last comment. I rarely if ever get that courtesy from those I ‘spar’ with.

Evil “atheist agenda“ aside, you want everyone to know that atheism is dead?

Then let us begin.

Would you like to present your witness of God first, or shall I?

Thank you for your kind words.
If you have witnessed God then, by all means go ahead.

(Now I’ve backed myself into a corner.)

I’m perfectly willing to share my story, but, on second thought, I’d like to know who I’m sharing it with first.

Do you think all atheists are amoral? If so, do you think that this is because they do not believe in consequences beyond the grave?

For instance, and I don’t mean to minimize, but do you think this article basically sums up how you feel?

Pardon my delay but year's end kept me happily busy and year’s beginning has been doing much the same. Hope your had been enjoyable as well.
Someone asked if I made it to new year’s. I said “Yes, I was asleep, but I made it!”

Also, pardon but I do not care to affirm of deny someone else’s article.

I think that atheism is amoral and perhaps necessarily so since it is mere a term, concept, set of worldviews, etc.
I think that atheists, being individuals, can be moral, immoral or amoral.
I think that in a god-free universe we could logically reason to moral conclusions but there would be no naturally occurring moral imperatives.

Do you think that, for example, Christians are amoral?
If so; do you think that Christians are amoral or immoral due to believing in existence beyond the grave (reward/punishment)?

aDios,
Mariano
